Mampho Brescia

Mampho Brescia is a prominent South African actress and an icon, currently featured as the lead in ‘Isibaya’ – prime time viewing on Mzansi Magic – and whose career spans all primary major South African TV Dramas (before ‘Isibaya’ she played the lead on M-Net production ‘Jacob’s Cross’ which has been syndicated to over 10 channels spanning 3 continents).

Mampho has worked with such industry heavyweights as Dustin Hoffman (in ‘Luck’-2011) and Phillip Noyce – award winning Hollywood Director (in ‘Revenge’ the ABC tv channel international hit)


Mampho Brescia is a South African born actress, singer and model hailing from Johannesburg. Brescia attended McAuley House Convent School. It was here at McAuley House that her love of performance was born. Regular lead appearances in school productions with encouraging critique from invited entertainment industry professionals steered her on her course in the media industry. Mampho graduated from the Witwatersrand (Wits) University, majoring in International Relations and Political Science, and successfully gaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

Mampho’s qualities were singled out, when she was selected as one of only two students to represent South Africa’s college fraternity in an exchange program with a Japanese University. A two year study and work experience followed in Tokyo, Japan at the Soka University. Returning to South Africa, she continued as a correspondence journalist for Japanese newspaper, Mainichi, and was chairperson of the Japanese Alumni Association for a term

Brescia then anchored the evening news for Afrisat Media, broadcasting into Africa daily. Her entrepreneurial spirit resulted, additionally, in her spear-heading and co-owning the events company Evening Flame Communications.

Mampho Brescia landed the lead role, as Zanele in the television drama series Jacob’s Cross, made by M-Net Original Productions, about powerful oil magnates battling for Africa’s rich off-shore oil resources.
The series originally premiered in South Africa on DStv’s MNet and was eventually syndicated to channels in Africa, Europe and the US.
Mampho played a role in District 9, her first part in a feature film of its magnitude.
District 9 was nominated for 4 Oscars, 7 Bafta awards, winner of a Critic’s Choice award, among 27 other nominations

Mampho enjoyed a fruitful period of 3 years in Hollywood, cast in several tv dramas and film. Amongst these, she enjoys recalling scenes she played against Dustin Hoffman in the tv drama ‘Luck’ (2011), as well as the lead role in the USC sponsored film ‘What to bring to America’ which was successfully presented at various Film Awards show in Europe and the US.
Mampho also featured on the ABC tv hit ‘Revenge’ directed by prominent Hollywood Director Phillip Noyce.
Upon her return to South Africa (2012) she was immediately cast for the lead role in the M-NET commissioned tv drama ‘Isibaya’ (broadcast Monday to Thursday on Mzansi, prime time), for the lead role of ‘Iris’.
This role has brought her new acclaim and raised her profile significantly, turning her into a style icon in South Africa.
Her striking looks, outstanding personality and memorable acting ability have earned her numerous fans and a significant following on and off social media.

Mampho Brescia
